Community Fit will host its inaugural fundraiser from 7 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The event aims to support equal access to a healthy lifestyle, and will feature a Fitness-A-Thon with donation-based group classes for all fitness levels. The organization’s fundraising target is $65,000 by year-end.

The event at 385 Anglers Drive, Suite D, will also include a live swap test, supporting the national bone marrow donation program, “Be the Match,” in honor of local resident David Schanke battling a rare leukemia case. Interested attendees can visit the Anglers Drive location.

Those opting for the swap test will undergo a brief medical questionnaire alongside the swab test while registering for potential matches.

Established this year, Community Fit operates as a nonprofit whose mission is to bridge the gap between medical professionals and practical application and provide recovery and fitness plans. Program leaders collaborate with medical professionals for appropriate medical releases and client-specific information.

“There’s the space between what people need to recover and restore health, and then the reality of what do we need to do to implement it, and so we’re trying to come in and bridge that gap from what the doctor’s recommendations are,” Community Fit Executive Director Rebecca Williams said.

The nonprofit also has partnered with other health businesses around town, allowing for the organization to move between locations depending on the client’s needs. Its expertise spans orthopedic fitness, cancer exercise and recovery, breast cancer recovery, arthritis fitness, osteoporosis fitness and physical disabilities fitness plans.

Community Fit also offers financial assistance through a sliding scale system. For more, go to CommunityFit.org.

The Fitness-A-Thon on Saturday will be the first of many health fundraisers facilitated by the Community Fit team.
