GM to lay off 1,300 workers at two Michigan plants

(Reuters) -Normal Motors stated on Thursday it’s shedding 1,300 staff at two Michigan auto factories in early January.

The biggest U.S. automaker stated 945 staff will probably be laid off at its Orion Meeting plant, which is ending manufacturing of the Chevrolet Bolt EV and being transformed for electrical truck manufacturing that may begin in late 2025. Ultimate manufacturing of the Bolt at Orion is about for subsequent week, GM stated.

One other 350 out of 1,400 complete staff at its Lansing Grand River plant will probably be laid off because of the finish of Chevrolet Camaro manufacturing, however the manufacturing facility will proceed producing the Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac CT5. GM’s rival Ford (NYSE:) stated in October it was briefly chopping one shift at its plant that builds the F-150 Lightning EV.

Ford informed suppliers this week it deliberate to provide about 1,600 electrical F-150 Lightning EV vans per week beginning in January in 2024, roughly half of the three,200 it beforehand had deliberate.
