WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Police in riot gear used pepper spray and made arrests to attempt to disperse demonstrators who had gathered exterior the Democratic Nationwide Committee (DNC) headquarters in Washington on Wednesday night to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.

The demonstration was organized by three advocacy teams and occurred in an space close to the U.S. Capitol constructing.

U.S. Capitol Police stated its officers had been “working to keep back approximately 150 people who are illegally and violently protesting”.

“Officers are making arrests,” it stated on X. It suggested folks to keep away from the world.

Police used pepper spray in opposition to the demonstrators and fired projectiles containing chemical irritants, a Reuters journalist stated.

Video of the demonstration posted on social media confirmed officers pushing protesters who had huddled collectively, chanting: “Let us live”. They wore black shirts studying “ceasefire now”.
